Problem With Merging Two Prophecy Accounts
I was thinking about the merging with all the purchasing more character slots controversy and all the people who have like 3 accounts and want to merge them all together. Here is a problem that just might happen and I hope one of you can find a solution! Well lets say a friend scams another friend and he links that account to his so the friend loses everything including all the items, chars, unlocks ect.Hes just gained every benefeit and the other cannot retrieve his account because the email is gone, the password and if there is one a secret question!
Is there a solution to linking accounts?

I only think you can only Merge 1 GW:P account, with 1 GW:F account, once and only once.

Well if you're going on about that, a 'friend' can scam another friend and take his account anyway.

Put bluntly, if you allow yourself to be scammed like that you deserve to be scammed. Honestly.

You can't merge accounts that are already established. You can only add a new key, you cannot add someone elses existing account to your own.

The potential for stolen accounts would be one of the bigger problems with any possible process of merging GW:P accounts. There are 2 things I can see needing to be done in order for it to happen:
1) The merge process would require email verification from the original email address(es) used to create both accounts, and
2) The merge process would have to be done during a certain grace period, before the price of GW:P drops to $20 at your local Best Buy, or only be applicable with accounts created before a certain date.

I think I found it out, you would have to have the original cd key in order to merge it.

I'd dye my hair green to merge my two Prophecies accounts together and add Factions. This would please a lot of consumers but from a marketing perspective, there is a chance that people with two Prophecies accounts might buy two Factions accounts. Do£$ that mak£ $£n$£?

Easy way to avoid people losing their accounts.
Merge screen looks like this.
Email Address of account 1:______________________
Password of account 1:_________________________
Email Address of account 2:______________________
Password of account 2:_________________________
Type "I want to merge the above two accounts" here:_____________________________
If someone knows your password who would steal your account then it's your fault. They'll steal it with or without a merge.
Of course this would mean that A-net makes less money...

How would they make less money if you were allowed to merge two EXISTING accounts together? You/someone has already paid for them, now they are going to be one account..?
And now it is 40 dollars to add 4 characters, the default number, so theres not a big loss there either.

well... i vote for the "gimme your key"-solution. maybe someone gets your logins for your account, but having the key for your account is likely impossible...
but after anet discovered the possibility of selling seperate charslots, why should they care any longer about some dumba55es like me, that bought a second account for prophecies.
i'm sure they hope i'll fill their pockets with another copy of factions for my second account somewhen in the future...
anet charslot-policy starts to dissapoint me more and more, but i guess they can't handle it differently, it's just their roots from blizzard...

lets make it more obvious for you.
a family has 5 accounts but actually play at different times.
they need 5 more Factions to continue olaying the way it is.
merge all of them and only one copy of each chapter will be needed from then on.
chapter 2 loss 4 sales
chapter 3 loss 8 sales
chapter 4 loss 12 sales
times all the other merged accounts that do the same on a smaller scale.
clear now?

to merge 2 prophecies account i think it should require the account cd-key and email confirmation. so i doubt any scaming could be done with that unless the person is a real idiot who gives out his cd-key and email password.
i really hope anet will allow merging accounts since it's really unfair to the many ppl who have more than 1 copy of the game.
i think the merge account option should make both account 1 single account.

WHERE DO YOU GET UNFAIR?.........DID THEY MAKE YOU BUY IT?
REASONS NOT TO.....A FEW
1. there will always be idiots
note that Gaile said they are really going to nag you at the merging process so they can say later that whichever way you choose you were warned that it could not be changed
in spite of this idiots who want to play with each other at the same time will merge to save money and then yell to separate the accounts again..........too bad.
2. when 2 accounts like that are merged one of the emails will vanish. good luck months later when the owner of the stolen account tries to recover it.
3. and most important to a business
WHY SHOULD THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO CUT SALES BY GIVING FREE CHAPTERS FOR THE REST OF THE GAMES LIFE?
2 games equals 2 upgrades
a merged 2 games equals 1 upgrade
forget security look at the bottom line to see why they are saying flat no.

Well, a merged two games doesn't really equal one upgrade. It kinda does, because you get the factions features, but you still don't get all the slots that you would get with two.
But really if there's someone with two accounts merged, both played by a single person, it would make sense that they would only need one factions account because it's only one player.
And the family situation doesn't work either because if they merged five then they could only get on at one time and sharing GW with four other people would suck for any active player. And actually if they wanted to share accounts all they would have to do now would buy extra slots for one account, even though that wouldn't work if they already bought the five accounts.

If a hacker can hack your GW account they can hack your email so email verification is no good.
Cd-keys you have entered can be seen in full from the edit account, manage keys screen.
Merging same chapter accounts is too much of a security risk to be viable its nothing to with money. Once the account is merged it is lost FOREVER. This would give hackers even more of a reason to steal your account. Steal multiple accounts merge them and sell it on ebay for lots of $$$.
Merging is simply not a good idea from a security stand point.

Honestly, people with multiple account should cut their losses, buy one version of Factions, and spend the savings on Multiple slots.
Yeah, it sucks you wasted the money on multiple copies, but that's no reason to throw more money at the problem by buying multiple copies of each chapter after this one. I think that's why Anet announced the slots-for-sale before Factions was released, to try and stop people from complaining about all the money they spent on multiple accounts!
